Kvitfjell Vest · Mountain lodges

A traditional lodge with a few modern touches.

Surrounded by trees and snow at the top of Kvitfjell Vest, this newly built 240 m² lodge was made for a ski-loving family — with room for relatives and friends, and everything arranged around life on the slopes.

The living room under the large chandelier, panelled in old Italian timber

The owners knew Kvitfjell well after ten years in an apartment there. When the perfect plot appeared — good sun and the slope right outside — the vision was clear: a lodge where the family could be together and welcome relatives and friends.

The interior is shaped by its surroundings. The materials are meant to recreate the nature outside: rough timber and natural stone, linen and wool, and a colour palette that belongs in the mountains. Floors are wide oak planks or coarse limestone.

The living room invites people to gather. The great fireplace in Hardanger stone is clad, like the walls, in reclaimed Italian timber panelling, and comfortable sofas and armchairs frame the fire. Benches beneath the windows on either side offer a fine view over Kvitfjell.

The practical side mattered as much as the aesthetic. There are three private bedroom wings, a guest room, social zones and a dedicated ski room and wardrobe for equipment. In the main bedroom the bed is placed in the middle of the room, so the view can be enjoyed from bed.

Modern pendants sharpen the dining area without taking anything from the view, and antique chairs bring personality. Contrasts give life — the result is a traditional lodge with a few modern touches.
